    Hopffgarten (Name)

Anna was a member of the noble von Hopffgarten family, which played an important role in the Thuringia region.

    History

The noble von Hopffgarten family is an old Thuringian lineage with a rich history dating back to the 13th century. The family was first mentioned in 1262 with Siffrid de Hoppengarten.

Their ancestral castle was located in the village of Hopfgarten, but this castle was destroyed in 1303.

The von Hopffgarten family played an important role in the Thuringia region and owned various estates and castles, including Schlotheim Castle, which was purchased by Friedrich von Hopffgarten in 1425.

In the 18th century, Maximilian Ernst von Hopffgarten had Schlotheim Castle demolished and built a baroque palace on the same site.

A notable member of the family was Georg Wilhelm von Hopffgarten, who was elevated to count in 1790. However, the count’s line of the family became extinct in 1944.
