Since 1732, the family has held the judicial office of hereditary chief (equivalent to a curator or seneschal) in the state of Hesse.
Hermann von Dörnberg (1496-1529), theologian (studied in Erfurt and Wittenberg), reformed the church of Breitenbach am Herzberg from 1523 and participated in the Diet of Speyer in 1529 as a servant of Landgrave Philip.
