The best present I have ever received is a weekend trip to Groningen with my family. And the most beautiful thing: the boathouse.

Surprise

When I turned 40, I was terrified that a surprise party would be arranged. I made it clear to my husband that I really didn’t want that, but you never know. And afterwards, of course, that was what my friends were planning to do, but my husband put a stop to it. I am very grateful to him for that. He made the day even more beautiful with his gift. My ancestors are from Groningen and I wanted to go there again someday, just to see where they once lived. My gift was also a weekend trip to Groningen, great! Wonderful with the four of us.

House on a boat

My father was born on a houseboat. And I find houseboats fascinating. So nice on the water, with a beautiful view. But anyway, when we arrived in Groningen we stayed in a boathouse. Not the same as a houseboat, but just as cool. So the house was literally on the water, because the bottom floor was the garage for the boat. How cool is that! It is located in a very beautiful nature area, so it was a lovely walk. I thought it was a really great experience, like a dream come true. Not only because of the boathouse, but also because I have been researching my family tree on MyHeritage for years and was now able to visit all those villages that I came across. So we visited all kinds of villages, such as the village of Kantens where my grandmother was born. To ever forget. ❤️
