My weekly 2025/08 with a week on the slopes with the entire in-law family. The kids on skis for the first time. Proud!
Monday February 17
Holiday: Woke up at 5:30, but only got up at 8:00. That’s also vacation. Dropped the kids off at ski class at 10:00. Did a few runs myself, then met up with the rest and skied all day. Remco and Sofia snowboarded together for the first time. Picked up the girls at 12:00 and went for lunch. I had a plate of Kaiserschmarrn. Phew, that fills you up. Later, skied with the whole group (13 people). Especially fun for grandpa and grandma to be on the slopes with all four of their granddaughters. Dropped the girls back at their class at 14:00. We did a few runs together, then raced super fast. I didn’t expect to dare, but I went 68.5 km/h. Remco, of course, went even faster. Did a few more runs with everyone until we had to pick up the girls at 16:00. The bus was too full, so we couldn’t get on. Managed to get a table for 11 on the terrace, but it was impossible to get drinks. Took the next bus and had a drink at the hotel. A big beer, I really felt that. Then dinner and exhausted.
Thankfulness: Saw mountain goats.
Tuesday
Holiday: Took the car to the slopes today, much more relaxed than the bus. Dropped the girls off at their lesson right away, then skied ourselves. It was foggy in the valley, but sunny and hot on the mountain. Nikki even wore just a shirt under her thin jacket. Had pancake soup for lunch with a herbal drink. Very tasty. Grandpa and grandma joined us. Skied with six people over the fun slope. Kids back to their lesson, and we went out with a group. From the black slope! Never expected that on the first day, but it went easily. Maybe I just have more strength in my legs from all the running. Later, raced with just the two of us. 73 km/h. Fun to do. Nice to take the car back, no more waiting for that overcrowded bus. Got lots of snacks at the supermarket. There was no water in the apartment. A tap had broken off somewhere, but because the owners are Dutch, they are always at the bottom of the list for handymen. Luckily, there was a guest who was a plumber and wanted to help, so the problem was quickly solved. But in the meantime, we had already eaten all the mini pizzas and desserts. So ate later. Everyone was very tired, nice shower, a few games, more snacks, and then to bed.
Thankfulness: Nice to take the car instead of an overcrowded bus, luxury.
Wednesday
Holiday: The girls were already on their way to their class before I had my skis on. Spent the whole morning with nine of us. The kids and men went down a very steep off-piste. The three worried mothers stayed up watching. Lunch was pancake soup again, Nikki had pizza, Nina fries, Remco schnitzel. Together with grandpa and grandma. Skied with six of us. First time with the girls on the red slope. They went back to class, and we went out with eleven of us. At home, had pizza, chocolate desserts, and croissants, then went sledding. Had to hold Nina back completely. Nikki and I lay next to the slope. Super fun. Ate at home and played a few games. I rolled Yahtzee in one go for the first time, with sixes too.
Thankfulness: The people around me.
Thursday
Holiday: The girls didn’t have lessons today, so we could start later. Did one run with the four of us, then met up with the rest. Fun with thirteen of us. The kids went like rockets after each other. Nice to see. Grandpa and grandma very proud. Took lots of photos and videos. Had lunch at the bottom of the slope with everyone. I had a kind of goulash. Nikki ate a whole pizza by herself, and Nina a small pizza. Then went out with everyone again. Changed at home and met up for a drink. There was a piano, so Tom showed off his skills. Ate at home, showered, played games, and didn’t go to bed too late.
Thankfulness: Seeing the kids enjoy each other, really beautiful.
Friday
Husband: Hooray, boyfriend’s birthday.
Holiday: Got up earlier today to be on the slopes on time due to the warm temperatures. No thermal pants needed under the ski pants. Went out with the four of us in the morning, but soon met the others. Grandpa and grandma already went home, so eleven of us left. Had a long lunch with everyone (we ate all the lasagna) and then said goodbye to Peter, Caroline, and Tom. The eight of us did a few more runs, but then called it a day due to worsening snow. Everyone’s legs were getting tired. Packed all the stuff in the apartment, ate, showered, and watched Lego Masters.
Thankfulness: The cozy lunch with a fun group.
Saturday
Holiday: Woke up long before the alarm, so started stripping the beds and eating. In the car at 6:20. It was immediately busy with Dutch ski boxes, but no real traffic jams. Watched the sunrise. We lay down for a while, lovely. It went very smoothly. Only stopped twice to refuel and one short bathroom break. We were home at 3:30 PM. Unloaded the car and cuddled the cats a lot. Immediately did a load of laundry. Too lazy to cook, so got fries with salad. Neighbor girl immediately came over. The girls played nicely, and she stayed over. Remco finally got his birthday present: a shoe dryer. Well, he soaks his running shoes after every race, and then they stand on the counter for days, so that problem is now solved.
Thankfulness: The sunrise in a beautiful setting.
Sunday
Me: Woke up at 8:00 AM, with three cats around me. Stayed in bed until 9:00 AM. It was still vacation after all.
Sports: Ran together at the end of the morning. I did 13 km, Remco 15 km. Wow, my thighs felt like concrete.
Me-time: Spent some time lying in bed with my electric blanket on. So nice.
Step-dad: Came by. Gave him a €50 voucher for his favorite café because he fed the cats.
Us: Went to the thrift store and supermarket together.
Parents-in-law: Came by to give Remco his birthday present. Ate cake.
Kids: Rollerblading with another neighbor girl. And in the evening, watched Jachtseizoen with both neighbor girls.
Me-time: Assembled my Lego sunflowers.
Thankfulness: Home sweet home with our lovely cats.
