In January, I attended a family constellation as a representative for the first time. What a special experience that was.
The Constellator
I had never attended a family constellation before, so I had no idea how it would work. I also didn’t have a theme or issue to bring up, so I opted for a role as a representative. In this role, you are asked to take on a role, such as a family member of the person with a specific issue.
First, we had the person with the issue. She was not part of the family constellation itself, so she chose a lady to represent her role. Additionally, she chose someone to represent her father, mother, sister, brother-in-law, and brother. I was her brother and was placed next to the father. The brother-in-law stood directly behind his wife. The mother stood alone, and the sister with the issue also stood completely alone.
Once I tuned into the brother’s role, I felt a connection with the father and the sister, who were close to me. I also felt a strong masculine energy, so I stood literally upright with my chest forward and my hands on my hips or in my pockets. With the mother and the second sister, I felt a lot of distance, both literal and figurative. The brother didn’t like to get in touch with his emotions, so he kept everything at a distance for a while.
As everyone expressed how they felt, on behalf of the family member of the constellator, there was more openness and a better connection with each other.
The Representative
I also thought about what I could learn from this for myself. I concluded that the bond with one family member was much stronger than with another, but that could also be because others cannot deal with their feelings/emotions and therefore close themselves off a bit. I recognize that.
It was special to experience it from that closed masculine side. How he views things and how he experiences everything.
Conclusion
It is super interesting to attend a family constellation. Whether you bring up an issue or attend a family constellation as a representative, it remains special.
