Got up at 8:00 am and quickly packed the last things. Took the taxi to Schiphol and had a nice drink with Annita, Kitty & Roy. Then checked in and said goodbye at passport control. That was quite difficult. Then we did some shopping & bought some books. Debby was at the gate to say hello. The plane took off at 2:45 PM. On the ground the plane was traveling at 285 kilometers per hour and it was 9,200 kilometers to Bangkok. The flight would take about 10:45 and we flew over Turkey and India. The food was ok and we watched the movie Mean Girls. It was -43 degrees outside and we were flying at 930 kilometers per hour at an altitude of 11,300 meters. Nice
screens with all that information! Tried to sleep at 8:00 PM, but of course that didn’t work. Then I ordered a whiskey and coke (yuck). I didn’t fall asleep until much later, before 1 o’clock. It’s a strange feeling. Just exciting to see what’s to come. It’s also a strange idea to be separated from my family for a year. Now I have the feeling that I don’t really have to worry about missing things that much. I can always call, email and return if I want. But maybe I’ll miss my mommy a lot. It’s just a weird idea. I now really stand for everything myself. But I am looking forward to taking on

this challenge.
