I have enjoyed living in all kinds of places, but at some point I wanted to return to my hometown.
Writing assignment #32
Around the world
Gosh, where have I lived? I only lived with my parents in Edam, my birthplace. In two different houses. The house where I was born was right in the center and super small. At the end of my primary school years we moved to a larger house.
In my adult life I lived in Australia for a year, backpacking. There I lived in many different hostels, regular houses, but mainly in my camper. Here you can read about my stories in Australia.

I have also had three rental properties in Amsterdam, two in Edam, one in Haarlem and one in Volendam. Then it was time to buy. The first house was in Zaandam, then two in Purmerend and finally in Edam. And I won’t be leaving here anytime soon. There is nothing wrong with the house, new construction. The neighborhood is great, the people are nice, lots of greenery and water for swimming, so no reason to leave.
Back to the beginning
Well, and back to where it all started. Edam kept pulling and when my children got a bit older and I thought that at some point they would go out on their own, I wanted to return to my birthplace. It’s all a bit nicer there, a bit more social control, just a bit more small-scale. I also missed certain special days, such as the flea market and music festivals. And of course it is also nice to be close to my family again. They were allowed to stay with grandma for a night every other month and always went to the swimming pool. In the meantime, the other grandparents have also moved in 1 kilometer away, which is super nice of course!
