Ecstatic dance is something that I enjoy immensely. Just let loose, to any kind of music.
Writing assignment #24
Move to music. It sounds so simple and it is. The type of music doesn’t matter, because you can dance to any kind of music, although it is a lot easier with a bit of a dance beat. During ecstatic dance, all types of music are played. All corners of the world are represented, from African drums, jazz, 80s and pop. It feels uncomfortable at first because you are not used to dancing to a certain type of music. But no one is looking at you, everyone is just doing something and everyone is going crazy. Just don’t think, just let it flow. And you move more exuberantly, because you are just dancing and nothing else. No eye contact with others and no talking. Completely turned inward. You literally fall into a kind of trance.
I recently discovered a new kind of ecstatic-like dance, the ecstatic morning rave. New to me, maybe it has been around for a while, I have no idea. I immediately signed up. ? It seems great! On Sunday mornings, go crazy to techno music. To be continued.
Ecstatic dance at home
I dance at home regularly and if a song comes along that I don’t feel like listening to, I naturally leave it on. Soon there is no resistance at all and I am completely absorbed in the music again. At home is ideal because you can do it whenever it suits you. I always do it in my office. Curtains closed, lights off, earplugs in and off we go. It also looks a bit like silent disco, only without contact with others. Even if I am disturbed by one of my daughters who says: “Are you dancing again”, I go right back into my dance trance.
