I always hated that I didn’t have a degree. But after taking a huge leap, I finally got my diploma and I’m so happy I did it.
Writing assignment #35
Scammed
I once got my MAVO diploma and then I started doing SPW. First a year of theory, then two six-month internships and the last year also theory. Just before my exams, I was told that my first internship was insufficient and that I would have to do it again after my exam. That just wasn’t true, so I refused. Had long discussions at school, but they continued to insist that it was insufficient. There was nothing digital back then and I didn’t have any paper stating that I had a good one. I was furious and I stopped immediately. Years later I went back to get a story. The teachers I had then were no longer there and my internships said they were good. Well, I still didn’t have a diploma and there was nothing that could be done about it.
Retraining
After I left school, I started working in administration and later as a planner. Yet it still nagged at me that I didn’t have a diploma. I thought that was really terrible. For years I took all kinds of courses to see what I really enjoyed doing. Took the most diverse courses, from accounting to child psychology, from natural medicine to secretary. Actually, I liked everything, but it wasn’t super special to do a real training for it. In 2011 I did take a webpage designer course because I always had my own website. In 2019 I started taking some online programming courses again and really enjoyed doing them. So then I decided to take the leap and started training to become a Software Developer. That was quite a change. Suddenly I had to study for hours again and it cost a lot of money. But it was all worth it. I still enjoy tinkering with websites every day. It was a good step and I am also a bit proud of myself that I finally have my diploma. ?
