Full moon walk

Last Saturday I had a full moon walk in Schoorl. We started when the sun was still shining and ended in pitch darkness.

Just before 10 p.m. the supervisor opened the Staatsbosbeheer building. He just couldn’t turn off the alarm, so he made some nice noise and called for a while. After this alone we received some information about the walk and the moon.

And then off we went. It was still light, so everything was clearly visible. There was a lot of water in some places, so we couldn’t get everywhere. There was a very high staircase to the highest dune. We didn’t go up there, which was a shame because it looked spectacular. I don’t think those old people would have made it either. We did go up some other stairs. Also spectacular.

Many fir trees were once planted here because they held the sand. They are now trying to thin out the spruces a bit, because other plants don’t get a chance. In some places they have removed spruce trees and other trees can be seen. There was also a part where there was a fire a few years ago. All new spruce trees came up here again.

We watched the sunset at the lookout point. Beautiful colors of course. With a full moon, the moon rises above the horizon as soon as the sun disappears below the horizon. It was overcast, so we only saw the rays of the illuminated moon.

In fact, the sky was never really dark for a moment, because either the sun was visible or the full moon. We ended up on the highest dune, where the clouds had just left and the full moon became fully visible. Just a moment of enjoyment.

It was quite dark deep in the forest, under all those trees. And then we went down those very steep stairs that I had seen at the beginning. Only it was super dark and the steps were uneven. Everyone had to concentrate hard to get down without falling. Fortunately that was successful.

Actually, I liked those stairs the most. Just a moment of utmost concentration. Doing something I normally never do. I really enjoyed experiencing the entire full moon walk.
