My mother’s watch

My mother’s watch has been in my closet for almost 9 months. Today it goes back into the charger, for her granddaughter.

Garmin sports watch

My mother always wore her sports watch, and so did I. Just useful for tracking steps and sleep. But mainly, of course, to register running. And then link it to Strava. Only this one has been sitting in my closet unused for 9 months now. Several times someone mentioned that she wanted to try a sports watch, but I didn’t have the heart to give my mother one. Her last heartbeat is recorded on this watch. Very bizarre to see how her heart rate went in her last hours. Looking at this just gives me a lump in my throat. Such a simple graph. And yet, such a harsh truth. That’s why I just couldn’t give it to anyone. I’m not materialistic at all and I’m really not going to keep it forever, but I just hadn’t found the right time yet.

From grandmother to granddaughter

And then my daughter (13) needed a running watch, because she has to run four kilometers at school and that has to be registered. So everyone has to run four kilometers, but each child is given a maximum time. Nikki has to do it within 24 minutes. She should easily manage six minutes per kilometer. So we’re going to practice, together. I can’t manage longer than four kilometers at the moment, so that works out perfectly for me. Together is also much more fun.

She also had to do this last year, only not as far. And then things went well for her too. By the way, she came 3rd (in her category) in the 2023 fair run. While she never runs. Only practice once or twice in advance. And now we are going to practice, with my mother’s, her grandmother’s, watch. And this time I’m proud to give the watch, because I’m sure my mother would have liked this.
